Breakthrough is a true inspirational story that is sure to stir your heartstrings. It chronicles the ordeal of a boy who accidentally slips into the frozen Missouri Lake to be rescued lifeless. Directed by Roxanne Dawson, the movie portrays the unfaltering love of a mother for her son resurrecting him from the jaws of death in a Breakthrough - his recovery defies every such case history and scientific predictions.

The Plot:

John, the 14-year-old Guatemalan adopted son of Joyce, faces alienation in his school due to his inability to come to terms with ignorance about his biological parents. In a freak accident, he and his friends Josh and Reiger fall through the ice in the frozen lake. Unlike his two friends who swim to safety, John is trapped. He is rescued after 15 minutes and all efforts to resuscitate him fail. However, a faint pulse gives out some hope, and he is lodged in a hospital under expert care. It is from here that the unfailing faith of Joyce is put to the test. A Breakthrough is made, and John recovers to resume his normal life. 

Postscript:

John is finally reconciled to his survival and rebuilds his relationships. The epilogue says that John has graduated from school and is pursuing a career in ministry.
