India, Srilanka and Bangladesh Compete for the Nidahas Trophy, 2018

March 15 2018 , Written by Pratik Shelar

Srilanka is hosting the ongoing Nidahas Trophy 2018, an exciting tri-nation series among India, Bangladesh, and Srilanka, hosted at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Nidahas means ‘freedom’ in Sinhalese, a cricketing event designed to commemorate Srilanka’s 70th year of independence.  The matches would be played in the Twenty20 format, with each team playing each other twice, and two making it through to the final playoff.

India competed with Srilanka recently on 12th of March, 2018. Here are some exciting highlights from the 4th match of the series:

  • India won the toss and opted to field first

  • Rain caused the match to be restricted to 19 overs per side

  • According to the winning Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, his bowlers delivered a smart performance, they stuck to the brief by taking as many wickets and restricting as many runs as possible.  India has certainly turned out to be a strong contender in the series. He also pointed out to the changed batting middle-order and the collective team effort towards victory.

  • At 17.3 overs, India (153/4) managed to equal the score set by Srilanka, owing to Dinesh Karthik’s continuous boundary strikes. India won by 6 wickets, 2 matches in the tri-series, thus cementing their position for the finals.

  • Manish Pandey (42 runs) and Dinesh Karthik (39 runs), endured a great fight after the defeat of Raina and Rahul. Their fifty-partnership led India to climb up the competitive charts.

  • The tournament is shaping out well, with each team of the three teams claiming a victory and a defeat, the next one plays out between India and Bangladesh

  • If India wins the next match on Wednesday, 14th March, it could displace Lankans from the tournament.

Additionally, opener Shikhar Dhawan has secured a good form by delivering two back-to-back half centuries in the tournament.

Not a great start for India, when they lost to the host country Srilanka by five wickets, but managed redemption lately. There is immense hope riding on Skipper Rohit Sharma to deliver a worthy performance.

Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal and Vijay Shankar are likely dependable bowlers, cautious of their opponents.

Indians wish to spearhead the tournament, by delivering exactly what is promised.  While Srilanka has maintained a decent batting-order, their bowlers will need more strategic help to avoid poor deliveries. The notion of taking wickets to stay in the game seems to be the way ahead.
